Hamilton County Park District

Description: The Hamilton County Park District's mission is to preserve and protect natural resources and to provide outdoor recreation and education in order to enhance the lives of present and future generations.  A wide variety of programs on local flora and fauna are available for schools, scouts, organized youth groups, adults groups that can be tailored to your group’s interests.  The Park District also offers an array of programs for the general public. Visitor Centers: The Park District operates five visitor centers - Miami Whitewater Forest, Winton Woods, Glenwood Gardens, Sharon Woods and Woodland Mound.  We have naturalist offices at those locations and at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve. See website for more information.

Hours of Operation:  Hamilton County parks are open everyday, dawn to dusk. Visitor Center hours vary, check our website for specific information.

Facility Open to Public: Yes

Onsite Programs Available:  Yes, on all topics concerning the native flora and fauna of the region. 

Offsite Programs Available: Yes, for organizations within Hamilton County - on all topics concerning the native flora and fauna of the region as long as the program location is within Hamilton County. 

Entrance Fees: A motor vehicle permit is required for all vehicles entering the parks.  Motor vehicle permits are $5 for an annual pass and $2 for a daily pass. 

Program Fees:  Most programs are free, however for some programs we do charge a fee to cover materials and arrangements. If there is a charge, it is listed in the specific program information. 

Handicap Accessible: Yes, many of our facilities and trails are accessible. Please refer to our website for details on particular parks, facilities, and trails.  

Teacher Training Workshops/Programs: Yes, by request. 

Audiences: Preschool-college students, youth groups, garden clubs, organized adult groups, Senior adult groups, and general public. 

Program Topics:  Astronomy, local wildlife, insects, gardening, ecology, water resources, scout badge programs, trees, wildflowers, edible plants, medicinal plants, pioneer life, Native American life, maple sugaring, fossils, gems and minerals, geology of the area, habitats, and other topics by request.

Free Teacher Resources: Most of our programs are free.

Community Service Opportunities Available: By request. Examples included scout programs and a teen volunteer program to help students complete community service requirements.
